Stop Motion

Posted by Emory on August 27, 2008

Stop motion is a video making process that takes a series of photo’s frame by frame and turning them into video. This process takes a lot of patience and time just to produce a short animation. Stop motion has it uniqueness. There are many movies that has stop motion. Most notable ones are The Nightmare before Christmas, Chicken Run, and Wallace and Gromit films.

Here are some independent short stop motion film makers showing their talents off. Most of them are pretty nice.

It takes from hundreds to thousands of photos just to complete a video like this! It’s pretty amazing how these people use their time to do these things. It takes a lot of patience and tries to complete the effect. Plus, a big planning must be done in order to convey the message across. But non the less, the animation is beyond what we can do with simple tools.

Coldplay

Posted by Emory on August 3, 2008

One of the bands that inspire me to think when listening to their songs. At August 1st, their new video, Viva La Vida premiered at their website… and the videos are getting into Youtube as we speak. But before going to the premiere, I made a little compilation of their videos in this post. The ones I think rock out my mind, the ones that make me think, the ones that make me dream of one of my big projects.

Coldplay (Parachutes) - Don’t Panic

The first song from their album that I enjoyed… This video showed me how this world through this song. I really enjoyed it. But they were starting their careers in the music industry. There isn’t much impact but it was a great beginning.

Coldplay (A Rush of Blood to the Head) - Clocks

Clocks is another song that I think it is amazing. The repeating keyboard tune and the video really made a good image how Coldplay would turn out in the future. I began to like their music since my big brother always play the cassette on the radio. At my grandma’s house, there’s MTV there so their music video was alluring to me.

Coldplay (X&Y) - Speed of Sound

Speed of sound is the one that gave me the most impact. With the colourful background and the slow theme with high impact melody, it made me attracted to it. The song alone made me think of one big project that I will be making. A dream, a vision, a past, present and the future… I thank Coldplay for making this song the best one I’ve ever heard.

Coldplay (Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends) - Viva la Vida

(When the clearer version is out… I’ll change it)

This is their new song… Although there is not much impact this time but it’s still one of the best from their album. Since the song was inspired by Nintendo’s Zelda theme song, many people are confused with this song either it was inspired by one song, or many other… Since I know one band made the song same tune as this song, both the band said the source of inspiration comes from Zelda… Anyway… it’s still a good job to Coldplay.

Viva la Vida - Alternate video version…

… Nuff said… It’s like their Violet Hill video… captured using a low res cam…

I just wish their music video looks like this one…

Viva la Vida - Itunes Ad

Hail to the king…

Short animations that tells a story by Watching

Posted by Emory on August 3, 2008

Sometimes cartoons care fantastic… Just like Wall-E. But there are other animations out there are nice that does not use any CGI or little usage of it only. I’m pretty amazed by the result that these people really take effort on making these short movies. They have a meaning to it and they were portrayed in a very artistic symbolic way.

Among all the best I’ve seen, I’ve placed it all here for all to see… So now here goes… 3 short animations that I think it’s great enough to watch.

Food Fight

This is about the World War II (and other reference to 9-11 and the ‘war’ after it…). Each food represents its own country… From Hamburgers (Amerca) to Sushi (Japan), this is a very interesting animation. Waste of food? The creator and his dog consumed most of the food so it’s not wasted. This gives another term of Food Fight!

Western Spaghetti by PES

Artistic stop motion animation using toys and papercraft to make a cooking video. It’s colourful and nice… but not for the stomach. It makes you go… “Wow! Nice!” but not “Delicious!?” More animation at PES

Rabbit by Run Wrake

Sorry but that’s the only better quality i found…

This animation is the best of all. Although it’s a bit cruel and graphic… The message get’s through. With words, storybook style art, and 2D animation fitted with compositions, This animation is very nice. It tells a story about how 2 kids wanted to get everything.

These short animations are very nice. I loved them all… Hope I can make my very own video animation. But I lack the tools anyway…
